Help
For any help, mail hello@ploten.dev, with a problem report if something isn’t working. These are the messages you’re most likely to see, and what to do about each.
The Ploten tools are missing
When an agent has no working Ploten entry, the install says one of these, with Claude Code or Codex for the agent:
Claude Code: no Ploten entry. Close every Claude Code window, then run the install line again: npx.cmd -y https://ploten.dev/install
Claude Code: its Ploten entry starts another program. Close every Claude Code window, then run the install line again: npx.cmd -y https://ploten.dev/install
- 1
Close every window of that agent.
- 2
In PowerShell, run the install line again:
npx.cmd -y https://ploten.dev/install - 3
Restart Power BI Desktop and the agent.
The tools can also go missing after an install that finished without these lines. npx.cmd -y https://ploten.dev/install --status shows whether each agent has its Ploten entry, and changes nothing; the same steps fix it. If the tools are still missing, mail hello@ploten.dev.
Running scripts is disabled
Running scripts is disabled on this system
PowerShell ran npx, which Windows’ default script policy blocks. Type the line with npx.cmd instead, as the install guide gives it.
Ploten needs an administrator once
The install says this, or your agent does when Ploten can’t connect:
Ploten needs an administrator once to turn on its Power BI connection for every user of this PC: right-click Start, pick Terminal (Admin) or Windows PowerShell (Admin), click Yes (or type an administrator’s password), then paste this line and press Enter:
$k = 'HKLM:\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Edge\WebView2\AdditionalBrowserArguments'; if (-not (Test-Path -LiteralPath $k)) { New-Item -Path $k -Force | Out-Null }; New-ItemProperty -LiteralPath $k -Name 'PBIDesktop.exe' -Value '--remote-debugging-port=0' -PropertyType String -Force | Out-NullThen restart Power BI Desktop. If you are not an administrator on this PC, give your IT team this page: https://ploten.dev/it-note
Two other answers give no line: “Ploten gives no administrator line on this PC: more than one user can sign in to it at the same time…” (a shared server), and “a machine-wide Power BI Desktop policy overrides…” (your IT team set it). For either, give your IT team the notes for IT.
An older Ploten printed ADMINISTRATOR REQUIRED: do the step above.
Licence stop
An answer ends:
Power BI and your report are not changed.
That’s a licence stop: Ploten didn’t run, and nothing changed. Every request stops the same way until you do the step the answer names. Then ask your agent to send the request again.
Key in use on all PCs
This licence key is already in use on all the PCs it allows.
Free a place on your key: free the old PC on the PC page (pass.ploten.dev/pcs: type your licence key), or run the uninstall line on a PC you no longer use, or mail hello@ploten.dev.
Can’t free another PC now
This licence key cannot free another PC now, because it freed the most PCs it may for this period.
A licence key can free at most 1 PC in 14 days, on the PC page or with the uninstall line. For more, mail hello@ploten.dev.
Not activated on this PC
Ploten is not activated on this PC.
Run the install line with your licence key, then restart your agent.
No open report found
No open report was found in Power BI Desktop.
Open the report in Power BI Desktop, then send the request again. Start your agent from the folder that holds the report project.
Last payment failed
A note says the last payment failed. Ploten keeps working until the date in the note. Fix the payment at the link the note gives.
New version ready
A note says a new version is ready. Run the install line again, then restart Power BI Desktop and your agent.
Answer names notes for IT
An answer names ploten.dev/it-note. Ploten couldn’t read its Power BI setting on a company PC. Your IT administrator sets the one value given in the notes for IT.
